The USCCB observes Child Abuse Prevention Month every April to promote the protection and safety of children. Catholic Current spoke with Bishop James V. Johnston, chairman of the Committee on the Protection of Children and Young People, about improvement in this area during the past twenty years. In his Easter message for 2023, Pope Francis urged people to embrace the hope and light of the resurrection. He emphasized the importance of faith and solidarity in the face of global challenges and crises. He also called for an end to armed conflicts and violence around the world, and for renewed efforts towards peace-building and disarmament.
