WASHINGTON—The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) viewed a video reporting on the reconstruction work accomplished in Haiti during their fall Assembly in Baltimore. The video was presented November 11, by Archbishop Dennis Schnurr of Cincinnati, chairman of the Committee on National Collections. The video presents the progress and accomplishments as the USCCB helps the Church in Haiti rebuild after the 2010 earthquake.

“I am here today to deliver good news about our ongoing work to help the Church in Haiti rebuild” said Archbishop Schnurr. “In collaboration with the Church in Haiti and other sister churches, the Partnership for Church Reconstruction in Haiti, known as PROCHE, was created and the difficult long-term work of planning and executing the Church reconstruction program in a safe and transparent manner was started.” Accompanying Archbishop Schnurr were Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, auxiliary bishop of Seattle and chairman of the Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America, as well as Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami, chairman of the USCCB Haiti Advisory Group, and Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tucson, chairman of Catholic Relief Services.

All USCCB aid for reconstruction work in Haiti goes through PROCHE, the Haitian Bishops’ Conference construction entity developed for this purpose. Other partners on PROCHE projects include Adveniat, the Koch Foundation, and the Spanish Episcopal Conference. “The hard work of collaboration and reconstruction has taken time but it is now bearing fruit,” Archbishop Schnurr added.

With the video, Archbishop Schnurr also presented a printed report to the assembly of bishops on the work in Haiti, which contains a summary of the audited financial statements of PROCHE. The video is available at: usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/haiti/haiti-reconstruction-project.cfm and the printed report can be found at: usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/haiti/upload/13-049_Haiti_Annual_Report.pdf. Printed copies of the report are available by ordering them from the Office of National Collections.
