WASHINGTON—Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo,Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the United States Conferenceof Catholic Bishops, has issued the following statement upon Pope Francis'sacceptance of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick's resignation from the College ofCardinals.

Pope Francis has also imposedon Cardinal McCarrick, suspension adivinis and has directed him to observe a life of prayer and penance inseclusion until the completion of the canonical process.
