Action Alert: National Housing Trust Fund

September 2002

The National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF) is likely to be debated on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives before Congress adjourns!

We expect HR 3995, the Omnibus Housing bill, to come to the floor of the House before Congress adjourns in October. Representative Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will offer The National Housing Trust Fund as an amendment to that bill. As you recall, the NHTF would provide funds to build, rehabilitate, and preserve 1.5 million units of housing over the next 10 years for households with very low incomes. This Amendment, however, will not specify the source of funds that will be used to assist in the construction, rehabilitation, and preservation of housing units, that are mostly rental units and mostly affordable to families at or below 30% of area median income.

Please call your Representatives (1-866-864-NHTF) and urge them to vote for
the Sanders Amendment to HR 3995!

There are now 194 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.
