Dear Mr. Ambassador:
The arrest and continued detention of Senator Wilson Ferreira Aldunate and his son is a great disappointment to all who have looked forward to the restoration of democracy in Uruguay. I have known Wilson Ferreira and Juan Raul for a number of years and consider them both to be men of integrity and genuine commitment to democratic values.
The difficult period of transition through which your country is now passing can only be made more painful by their continued detention. I truly hope we will hear soon of their unconditional release.
