Your Excellency,

I write to express the solidarity of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Myanmar. It is with great sadness that we learned of the thousands who died; the tens of thousands who were injured, and the devastating loss of homes and livelihoods caused by the cyclone that hit Myanmar over the weekend.

We know that this is a period of terrible suffering for the people of Myanrnar. We understand that the government has asked for international assistance to provide humanitarian relief. Caritas Internationalis, of which the Catholic Church in the United States is a member, is working to provide assistance to communities devastated by the cyclone. Our prayers are with the Church and people of Myanmar in this difficult time.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Francis Cardinal George, OMI
Archbishop of Chicago
President
