His Excellency U Linn Myaing
Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar to the United States
Embassy of the Union of Myanmar

Washington, D.C. 20008

Your Excellency:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has watched with growing concern the difficult situation in Mayanmar. Out of our commitment to the life and dignity of all persons and in union with Pope Benedict XVI, we hope and pray that the current conflict will be resolved peacefully for the good of the people of your nation.

Our Conference of Bishops shares the “great worry and special concern” expressed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar and the Myanmar Council of Churches and, with them, urge a “peaceful solution in order that there will be stability, peace and non-violence.”

Thank you for conveying the concerns of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to the government of the Union of Myanmar.

Sincerely yours,

Most Rev. Thomas G. Wenski
Bishop of Orlando
Chairman, Committee on International Policy

Your Excellency:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops stands in solidarity with the Church and people of Myanmar during this challenging time for your nation. We have welcomed and been guided by the statements of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar.

As a further expression of support, our Conference has sent the accompanying letter of concern to the Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar to the United States.

I remember participating with you in the Catholic Peacebuilding Network meeting on “Creating a Climate of Reconciliation” in Colombia in June. Promoting reconciliation in this difficult time is an important mission for the Church.

Please be assured that in union with Pope Benedict XVI we are offering prayers that the current conflict will be resolved peacefully for the welfare of the people of your nation.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Thomas G. Wenski
Bishop of Orlando
Chairman, Committee on International Policy
