V Encuentro Proceedings and Conclusions

116 | Proceedings and Conclusions of the V National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry • Leaders make it a point to frequently debunk myths about different cultural groups. • Acknowledge the grief or loss that people can feel when the composition of the community is changing. • Develop and promote multicultural rosaries and devotions. • Engage the entire parish community in acts of solidarity on behalf of poorer groups’ needs. • Accept that some parishioners who can only tolerate participating in a monocultural parish may choose to leave. • Articulate an ecclesiology of communion in preaching and faith formation, making frequent use of biblical passages that speak of unity in diversity—1 Corinthians 12, Pentecost, Romans 12, Acts 15, Galatians 2, Acts 6, etc. • Work to ensure access to resources, sacraments, staff, etc. for all cultural groups, in proportion to their need. • Preach on reconciliation in all of its forms from the pulpit, together with its connection to justice. • Incorporate a process of consensus building for major decisions. • Provide space for apostolic movements of various backgrounds. • Give images and symbols for distinct cultural groups a place of prominence within the church building and/or on parish grounds.
