LITURGY AND SPIRITUALITY I. Vision Liturgy and spirituality are central to the life of the Church as they sustain and express the faith of the People of God in communal prayer and divine worship. The celebration of the liturgy and sacramental life express and nourish the Catholic identity of the people in many ways. Formation for the Liturgy is essential to keeping the faith alive, operative, and vibrant. A spirituality nourished in the prayer of the Church and supported by cultural expressions of religiosity plays a crucial role in the strengthening of the faith and of the apostolic mission of Hispanics in the United States. II. Social and Religious Context in Hispanic Ministry • In the area of Liturgy and Spirituality, what comes up repeatedly, unanimously, and very urgently is the need for accompaniment of the Hispanic/Latino people in their liturgical formation. • The acceptance and integration in the liturgical life of popular Latino devotions is key and requires knowledge and pastoral sensitivity on the part of the parish priest.
