V Encuentro Proceedings and Conclusions

Proceedings and Conclusions of the V National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry | 153 Moment 5: Sunday, September 23, 2018, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. A Church that Celebrates – Morning Plenary and Closing Mass In the story of Emmaus (Lk 24:13-35), the last thing Jesus does is to vanish from the sight of the disciples shortly after they recognized him. The certainty that Jesus is alive leads them to realize that Jesus has been with them practically the entire day, and they are not surprised or disturbed when he vanishes. On the contrary, the disciples remain joyful and share with one another how they felt along the way while the stranger was interpreting the Scriptures. With astonishment, they exclaim: “Were not our hearts burning?” And they immediately set out for Jerusalem. The V Encuentro has opened our eyes to recognize Jesus present in our communities. It has prepared us to better understand that we, as the community of disciples united in the Eucharist, constitute the Body of Christ, the Church in the world. The Spirit sets our hearts on fire and sends us as joyful missionary disciples, protagonists in the work of the Church in the United States and beyond. Morning Prayer Leader and Homilist: Most Rev. William E. Lori, Archbishop of Baltimore Keynote Speakers Guzmán Carriquiry Lecour, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America Most Rev. Constantino Barrera, Bishop of Sonsonate, El Salvador Rejoicing – Celebrating the Joy of Being Missionary Disciples
