V Encuentro Proceedings and Conclusions

214 | Proceedings and Conclusions of the V National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry REGION III One diocese has developed new formation programs, including new initiatives for accompany- ing Hispanic engaged and married couples. They have also increased diocesan staffing with a new position aimed at supporting the evangelization efforts in Spanish. In another diocese, they have developed a Spanish-language marriage preparation program, workshops for liturgical ministers, and programs for youth and youth adults. In particular, Tacos + Teología follows the concept of a bilingual Theology on Tap reaching out to Hispanic Young Adults in their 20s and 30s, but without the bar setting. Another diocese has established a pastoral institute for ministry formation currently offering courses in two of its counties. In another diocese, they have held post- Encuentro meetings with diocesan and parish leaders to present the conclusions from the Diocesan Encuentro process and identify next steps. Other initiatives include a Lenten parish program in five small-group sessions based on The Joy of the Gospel , a leadership course, the formation of a diocesan advisory board for Hispanic ministry, and a day for Hispanic families. REGION IV The dioceses in this region are currently focused on four main priorities: immigration, family, youth and young adults, and leadership formation. Dioceses will support parishes in order to provide a comprehensive response through advocacy, tackling human trafficking, support- ing families, migrant ministry, and welcoming refugees. Efforts with families, youth, and young adults should empower parents to be the primary catechists of the faith for their children and engage young people in parish life. There is also a need for continuing formation for clergy in light of the experience of the V Encuentro, as well as both initial and continuing formation for lay leaders of all cultural backgrounds. REGION V Five of the dioceses in the region are promoting programs for the formation of Hispanic leaders. Three dioceses are developing social ministries, especially with migrants and refugees. One of these has partnered with Catholic Charities to provide social and legal services. Three dioceses are also developing family ministries, including Natural Family Planning classes in Spanish, add- ing a Spanish track during the annual diocesan marriage conference, and providing counseling and workshops for Hispanic families. One diocese is establishing Hispanic deanery teams to implement their diocesan pastoral plan for Hispanic ministry. Another diocese is developing a visitation ministry to families, the sick and the homebound. In another diocese, they have begun to offer diocesan retreats for Hispanic youth. Another diocese is expanding bilingual efforts through their Catholic newspaper, website and new bilingual Masses. Appendix G
