The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops.
Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through
promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education.
Expanding community development and professional opportunities for Catholics in the United States!
CCHD funds a number of stipend-provided summer, semester, and year-long internships for Catholics in the United States to gain experience working with and on behalf of the poor. These internships occur in around thirty CCHD diocesan offices in the United States, as well as in the CCHD office of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the office of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) in Washington, DC.
CCHD internships combine practical work in carrying out the mandate of CCHD at the local level, opportunities to develop relationships with community leaders, reflection on Catholic social teaching, and opportunities for sharing the experience with other CCHD interns.
CCHD internships are open to Catholics in the United States who have leadership abilities, community service experience, and effective writing/communication skills. Openness to the CCHD values of solidarity building, participation of the poor, and Catholic social teaching is essential.
Low-income people from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
All majors, undergraduate and graduate, are encouraged to apply. Some particularly relevant areas of study include business, communications, community or organizational development, human services, journalism, law, liberal arts, marketing, peace studies, political science, public service, religious studies/theology, social work, and sociology.
In general, internship funding is for approximately 10-20 hours/week during the school year and 20-40 hours/week during the summer. However, the actual number of hours funded varies by diocese.
$12/hour
Applications for Summer '14, Fall '14, and Spring '15 internships received before March 1, 2014, will be given priority. Applications received after March 1 will be considered on an as-needed basis. Diocesan applicants should directly contact the diocesan office to which they applied to inquire about the status of applications. For additional questions, please contact us here.
Internship positions for Summer 2013 to Spring 2014 were offered at these CCHD diocesan offices across the country. Interns have already been selected for these positions.
