General Mission Goals
The Gospel of Christ and the teachings of his Church guide the work of the USCCB. The work of the Conference is rooted in three general mission goals and organized into three key areas of responsibility.
- To act collaboratively and consistently on vital issues confronting the Church and society
- To foster communion with the Church in other nations, within the Church universal, under the leadership of its supreme pastor, the Roman Pontiff
- To offer appropriate assistance to each bishop in fulfilling his particular ministry in the local Church
Leadership
As Christ's vicar, each bishop has the pastoral care of the particular Church entrusted to him... Though each bishop is the lawful pastor only of the portion of the flock entrusted to his care, as a legitimate successor of the apostles he is, by divine institution and precept, responsible with the other bishops for the apostolic mission of the Church. -- Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 1560. Clergy Candidates
Clergy/religious candidates must request written approval from their diocesan bishop or religious superior before an application can be considered. Minorities are encouraged to apply.
Internships
USCCB also offers various internship opportunities that may be paid, unpaid or for academic credit. An internship offers students an exciting opportunity to learn and grow professionally within a non-profit, mission driven organization, while gaining a better understanding of the USCCB and its mission.
